Rescue Me ID: 17-12-12-00450Vinny (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Vinny is a friendly and outgoing medium to high energy Bull Terrier who needs a home with dog experience, (Bull Terrier experience or the like is preferred). No cats, dogs or children. -Personality: Vinny gets very excited to meet new people. He is moderate excitable and affectionate. Vinny needs to have someone continue to work on his self control but he wants to please. Like most Bull Terriers he is sensitive and can be intense. He will bark at people who are acting aggressively (such as wrestling, fighting, yelling or waving their arms). He can quickly be calmed down with proper handling. Vinny loves to play and cuddle with his ... (Read More)people and is very smart. He is so sweet and just wants to understand, be understood and accepted. -Leash behavior: Vinny was likely not walked in his past life. He will zig zag and pull frequently (there are several different devices that can be used to curb this). He will bark at other dogs that bark at him and he will pull towards them. Otherwise Vinny ignores other dogs while he is on leash. -Possessive Tendencies: Vinny is toy possessive towards dogs. He is fine with people and toys. Vinny has moderate to intense food and treat possession towards dogs AND humans while he is in his crate. Possession is less intense but still present while out of the crate. He would need a home that understands, and does not try to take away his food or treats without a proper 'swapping' technique. -Other Dogs: Vinny does not like dogs barking aggressively or getting too close to him while he is in his crate. Outside of the crate Vinny gets along with dogs that are almost his same size or larger. Vinny CAN NOT be around ANY small dogs. Vinny has the typical prey drive of a terrier. Vinny shows signs of being chained for most of his life so he is not experienced with interacting with other dogs and needs to be watched and guided carefully. His foster would recommend a muzzle on first introductions as a precaution until it is know whether or not the other dog may do something that may trigger Vinny. Otherwise, it would be best that he not be placed in a home with other dogs to avoid any possible problems that could arise from his possessive tendencies. -Cats: Vinny should not be placed in a home with cats. -Children: He met a small child in the hall at the shelter and he had no concern or undue curiosity. But due to his food reactivity and excitability it would be best that he not be placed in a home with children. (Less)
