Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00476Capone (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive,
 Malnourished

We pulled Capone from the Palm Beach shelter yesterday. He was found as a stray and is approximately 7 years old. He weighs about 40 lbs now but as you can see he is very thin and will easily be 50 lbs when he has gained weight. He is shy and fearful at first but very loving once he warms up. He just wants to cuddle and will climb right on your lap when you are sitting. Capone is also an ear nibbler! Every time he is next to a car, he just stands next to the door waiting to get in. He is already starting to love being at home and is very playful! He loves his toys and wants you to play with him. He is good with kids and also seems to be ... (Read More)dog-friendly so far... he does NOT like cats. He is good at taking his meds, has no food aggression with people, and is housebroken. As you can see, he is in rough shape and has a skin condition on his lower back. He has just been neutered. Capone is also heartworm positive, not surprisingly . He will be starting the long and difficult process of heartworm treatment. If you would like to give this sweet boy the love and forever home he deserves, please fill out a form online. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00474Tyson (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tyson comes to us as an owner surrender. He is 5 years old and is described by his former family as friendly, protective, hyperactive and playful. He gets along with other dogs and cats. He also gets along with kids but is hyperactive and strong, and may be too much for a young small child. He likes going on car rides, playing with rubber balls and running around in the yard. He can be a digger and jumper, and shouldn't be left alone unsupervised in the backyard. He has been an outside dog and would need a refresher course in housebreaking. Tyson will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on his shots prior to adoption. If you can ... (Read More)foster, or are interested in fostering to adopt, please apply online now! (Less)

Bull Terrier    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Turbo comes to us as an owner surrender due to a change in life circumstance. He is a young male bullie, approximately 1 year old, and is solid probably weighing 60 lbs. He lived outdoors and is a smart boy! He knows sit, shake and down. Turbo is an extremely dominant alpha strong male and needs to go to a power bullie savvy home. He would do best with an active family who can spend the time and energy in working him out and training him. We feel he would be best as an only pet; he does not like cats and other furry creatures; he has a high prey drive. He is iffy with other dogs, but could potentially do OK with a very submissive female ... (Read More)dog. He does love children. Turbo absolutely hates the hose. He is neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. If you are interested in fostering or fostering to adopt this amazing boy, please fill out an application online now! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00472Charlie (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic)

Charlie comes to us from the Broward shelter as a stray. He is approximately 3 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. This floppy eared cutie is very happy, playful and a ball of energy who doesn't seem to stop moving. He seems dog friendly and hasn't shown any signs of aggression to people or other animals. He is potty-trained and does well in the crate. However, Charlie doesn't seem to have had any proper training, and like many young male bullies who haven't been trained, he has no etiquette and doesn't know any commands. He doesn't really know how to play with toys and is not food motivated. Charlie would definitely benefit from training ... (Read More)classes and someone who can spend the time and give him the attention and exercise he needs. Charlie would probably do best in a bullie savvy home without small kids, as he would be too rough and energetic for them. Charlie has just been neutered, is microchipped and up to date on his shots. He does have demodex mange which we are treating and should be cured soon! If Charlie sounds like the boy for you, apply to adopt online now!! ' (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00469Lexi (female)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lexi came to us all the way from Montgomery, AL where she was found as a stray by the local shelter. The rescue coordinator contacted us directly as they do not get many bull terriers and they wanted her to go to a breed specific rescue group. We were thrilled to be able to help out; this marks a first for us in pulling a dog from out of state! Lexi is a young girl, approximately 2-3 years old and is a mini, weighing only 29 lbs. She is very calm, enjoys car rides, short walks and napping! Lexi was heartworm positive when she was found, but has undergone and completed the heartworm treatment, and should be HW negative at this time. Lexi ... (Read More)does not get along with other furries and must be an only pet! She also needs to go to an adult only, bullie savvy household - like with the saying 'Let sleeping dogs lie,' Lexi exhibits wakeful aggression. She can become ornery when woken, but she is completely fine if she wakes up on her own. She has food aggression towards other animals, but not with people. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00467Misha (female)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Misha comes to us as a stray from MDAS. She is thought to be approximately 5 years old and is a small girl, possibly 40 lbs. This sweet, sweet girl unfortunately has many medical issues we have to deal with at the moment. First, she developed a respiratory infection (kennel cough and/or pneumonia) at the shelter... secondly, she has a UTI and is peeing blood... third, she has ocular disease with a red and swollen right eye with mucopurulent discharge... last but not least, she has a rectal mass (see bottom right pic) which is red and inflamed. The mass has been surgically removed and pathology results came back as a form of cancer called ... (Read More)leiomyosarcoma... BUT the good news is that this type of cancer is only locally invasive with low potential for metastasis... therefore complete surgical excision of the mass (which is what we did), is considered curative! This is the best news we could have hoped for!!! Despite all of these painful things, her tail didn't stop wagging and all she wanted was to be petted and loved. She seemed very submissive and rolled over to show us her belly for some belly rubs. She is recovering from her respiratory infection, and is getting eye drops for her right eye. Stay tuned and follow our Facebook page for updates on this sweetie. If you are interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or adopting this girl, apply online now! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00466Kevin (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Kevin comes to us as a stray from MDAS. He is a brindle male weighing approximately 42 pounds. He had multiple wounds and lacerations on his face and by the side of his eye; we are not exactly sure what the source or cause of the trauma was. It looked like his wounds were superficial and healing, but over the last few days, he was unable to open his left eye fully, and clearly has been in a lot of pain. We took him to our vet and upon further testing, noted he had very elevated pressures in his eye. We brought him to Animal Eye Specialty Clinic in West Palm Beach and they discovered he had severe trauma to the left eye. For his comfort, ... (Read More)we had to remove the eye, unfortunately it could not be saved. The surgery cost approximately $1500, and we have started a YouCaring page to help with his vet bills. He had the surgery on Thursday, May 4 and stayed overnight at the vet. He is currently back with his foster family and is recovering. He is a true bull terrier, a warrior, and we have all faith that he will recover and adjust to life as a one-eyed pirate bullie. From what we were able to observe prior to his surgery, he seems to be playful and energetic and can get a little rough with play. He is very sweet and knows basic commands. He has no food aggression. He pulls on the lead but will stop with control. He also loves going on car rides. He appears to be dog-selective. He was kid tested and appeared to be friendly with no incidents. He has not been cat-tested yet. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his shots. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-06-00164Zelda (female)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

A Good Samaritan found this sweet girl at the side of the road in Hialeah, Miami hit by a car. She was clearly hurt and could not move, screaming in pain and incontinent. She was rushed to an emergency vet and found to have left pelvic, hip and femur fractures. She was not microchipped and we think most likely she has been an outside dog. She has calluses, oil on neck from being under car, filthy and horrible stink, horrid teeth that are filed down like she was grinding, and multiple missing teeth. She has fleas and flea dermatitis. We think she is approximately 5 years old, and she is a tweenie/small standard. After stabilization, ... (Read More)we transferred her to our regular vet Pet Calls in Lake Worth where she has been since, getting round the clock medical care. She currently needs IV pain medication/sedation and kept immobile to let her fractures heal as best as possible. After discussion with the orthopedic surgeon, he thought it was best not to operate on her fractures and let her heal on her own, which would take about 8 weeks. The surgery would have cost $5000, and she is at high risk for infection because of her skin condition. He felt she had a better prognosis of recovery without surgery. Zelda has been getting better everyday and recently had her Foley catheter removed and is peeing and pooping on her own. We anticipate she will be leaving the vet and onto a foster home next week. We will have a better idea of her personality then. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00277Rocky (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Cancer,
 Abused/Neglected

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] We rescued Rocky from MDAS where he was surrendered by his previous owner to be put to sleep. Rocky was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer of the skin in his left groin on July 2016. At that time, the tumor was small and was fully removed. Everything seemed good, but the owners were instructed to follow-up with a cancer specialist. Unfortunately, they did not, and his medical care was neglected. The tumor came back in December 2016 and it became a lot bigger before they addressed the issue. Instead of dealing with it, they brought him to a high kill shelter to be killed. Additionally, in going through ... (Read More)his old vet records, we found out that Rocky was an outside dog and neglected for most of his young life. He has only been to the vet once in 2011 when he was just a puppy, and treated for Demodex mange. The next time he was brought to a vet was in July 2016, when his owners first noticed the tumor in his groin. He had not seen a vet in 5 years. When we found out, we could not let this happen to this sweet boy. We wanted to see if he had a chance. We pulled him from the shelter and took him straight to Animal Cancer Care Clinic in Fort Lauderdale the next day, where he was examined and evaluated by the surgeon, Dr. Weinstein. Dr. Weinstein felt that he could operate and remove as much of the tumor as he can so that Rocky can have the best chance at living as long as he can in comfort. His surgery was a success, and we opted to follow this with chemotherapy with Dr. Correa. He is receiving Carboplatin and will have a total of 4-6 treatments, spaced every 3 weeks. As you can imagine, his vet bills have been costly ($3000-4000 for the surgery, and approximately $3000 for the chemo). We have started a YouCaring page to raise these funds: https://www.youcaring.com/rockycancersurgery If you are more comfortable calling in his donation directly to the vet hospital, you can do so at: Animal Cancer Care Clinic 1122 NE 4th Ave Fort Lauderdale FL 33304 United States (954) 527-3111 *** Please ask for Elysse - say donation is for Rocky with Bull Terrier Rescue of the Sunshine State *** Please help us give this sweet, sweet boy another chance at life. He is a very mellow, chill boy, and has been non-reactive to dogs in his foster home and stray cats during walks. He would be great with children. He is housebroken and crate-trained, but could definitely use work with his leash manners and counter-surfing/begging for human food from the dinner table. He has a bad habit of chewing his paws, and needs to be watched closely for that. Rocky is a picky eater and needs kibble mixed with canned/wet food; he does not like to eat dry kibble by itself. He loves to just lay with you on the sofa and cuddle. Rocky has a lot of life left in him, whether that is a year or longer. He has so much love to give. If you are that special someone to give this special boy a home, please apply online now! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-07-00588Spud (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Spud comes to us as an owner surrender as she is going through some difficult changes in her life. He is 8 years old and is described as friendly, protective, shy, active, playful, nervous, smart, affectionate, obedient and calm. He is a dominant male and dog-selective. He must be introduced slowly to other dogs; he can get along with them as long as they are not aggressive to him. He does not get along with cats. He does OK with older, well-mannered children, but does not do well with screaming kids and loud noises (he gets nervous around them and starts shaking). He loves to sleep in bed with you, and is known to be a bed hog. He loves ... (Read More)wearing hooded sweatshirts when it is cold outside. He does not like loud noises like fireworks, gunshots, lightning and thunder. He goes after flyswatters, brooms, rakes and vacuum cleaners. He knows basic commands like sit, lay down, stay and nite nite. His absolute favorite toy is a frisbee. He can also be a couch potato and love to lay on the couch and cuddle. He loves getting loved on, getting praises, playing in the pool and playing in the waves at the beach. He does not like getting his face washed during a bath or getting his toenails clipped. He is very loyal and can become protective with strangers. Spud does not like being crated and had a doggie door where he was free to go in and out as he pleased, but he prefers being inside the house. He is housebroken. He is neutered, up to date on all his shots and is heartworm negative. He is allergic to pork (cannot be given Comfortis) and peanuts. He has skin allergies during seasonal changes, or if he gets any flea or mosquito bites. His diet is Blue Buffalo Sensitive Skin and Stomach and he does great on that. He sometimes hurts his knee on his back legs (overstretched tendons) after playing frisbee and needs to rest for a few days. He also has an ear hematoma that is drained occasionally. He gets nervous when going to the vet. Spud is the typical bullie - can be hard-headed and stubborn at times, and needs an experienced owner with a firm and consistent hand. If this boy sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an application for him now! We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt family! (Less)

She is a very loving sweet dog who can get along with others dogs with proper slow introduction. She has not been cat or kid tested.

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Leena was adopted by a family almost a year ago but unfortunately, life circumstances have changed and they can no longer keep her. This beautiful girl is approximately 6 years old and is a small standard/tweenie, weighing between 35-40 lbs. She is very friendly and loving with people, but very aggressive towards other animals and needs to be an only pet - absolutely no other dogs or cats. She loves going on car rides, going for walks, sleeping, cuddling and giving lots of kisses, and playing with any squeaky toys. She does well with children and lived with a 6 year old at her previous home. Like many dogs, she dislikes thunderstorms. Leena ... (Read More)is crate and potty trained, but could use some help with her leash manners as she does pull and like to run. She is spayed, up to date on her shots and is HW negative. She has dry eye and needs daily eye drops and creams. (Less)

Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I rescued Odie from being Euthanized last year. He was HW positive, which was cometwly treatable. He's got a new lease on life and he knows it. He's good with other dogs, not sure about cats. He would be great for a family with kids above the age of 8 or so. When he comes in from outside he's a little rambunctious and might knock over a small child. He's a chunky monkey and doesn't realize it:) He's definitely a special personality and deserves a great home. I have 2 other dogs. My other dog bit him and I cannot have them out together. He didn't even fight back. He is submissive to my teacup daschaund. I work long hours which ... (Read More)means he doesn't get the attention he needs. I need for hI'm to have a loving family, that spoils him and treats him like a member of the family. He's house trained, eager to please, doesn't bark unless he's alerting you of something. He won't run off, he wants a home and is just happy to be there. A few weeks ago, I came home to my Gateam wide open and Odie laying at the entrance as if to guard it. (Less)
